Kia Rangatu

The New Zealand Disability Strategy was written in 2001 and is intended to be the base document for the development of disability legislation in New Zealand.

Understanding the document, which is a philosophical attitude document, is something the disability sector and community in general are encouraged to embrace. The ideals contained within it are a mandatory part of forming a framework for work plans for organisations to implement.

Components of Kia Rangatu video training packageTo assist organisations with incorporating these ideals the Auckland Disability Providers’ Network and University of Auckland have developed a training package called Kia Rangatu (Moving Forward) that fosters staff understanding of the New Zealand Disability Strategy.

Kia Rangatu is an essential training resource for organisations and an asset to their staff training programmes.

Where groups of 20 to 25 can be gathered the ADPN is happy to facilitate full day programmes on the use of the training tool. There is a cost for this depending on the cost of the venue and the catering and usually a package is calculated into the costing equation.

The training tool contains the following resources for use by your training facilitator:

  • Training workbook
  • The New Zealand Disability Strategy Training DVD
  • Inside Out video
  • The New Zealand Disability Strategy Training video
  • The New Zealand Disability Strategy document (Full version)
  • The New Zealand Disability Strategy document (Easy-to-Read version)
  • An Ordinary Life document
  • Your Rights When Receiving a Health or Disability Service brochure
  • Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights brochure

This training tool equips you with knowledge that challenges attitudes towards disability, the barriers disabled people face, and leads towards an inclusive society for all.

It can be ordered from PO Box 13385, Onehunga for the cost of $100.00. Please make your cheque payable to: Auckland Disability Providers Network Inc.
