Mayoral Candidates speak on Disability Funding

On September 6 Mayoral candidates spoke to an audience of 50 people on what they would do for the disability sector of Auckland if they should be elected as Mayor of the Super City. Few were able to grasp the problems that Auckland experiences, but it was an opportunity to educate them in the hope that should any one of them come to power, they will remember some of the information that was shared. There is no doubt, we have to continue working and reminding the governing bodies that funding for disability issues in general, and in Auckland in particular, remains a major problem. (more…)

Coopetition Workshop a winner!

On May 28th 2010, Forty people from a wide variety of disability service organisations worked together to discuss ways in which we can collaborate, work in partnership or share resources. The objectives were to achieve greater economy, reduce supply costs, establish greater resiliency within the sector and engender an enhanced sense of cooperation.

Brett Marsh facilitated a very active workshop in which he he told the story of why modern day trains are the width they are – based on Roman times! Yes, it is true! The moral being that if we keep on doing what we have always done, we will never make any progress! Now is the time to seek new ways of working.

One of the major achievements of the day was a list of “tradeable” items from which we can all benefit and use.

Read the Coopetition Workshop 2010 Report [ 376 KB PDF] and check out the list of resources we could all work on.

The Auckland Disability Providers Network is happy to assist in brokering trades between providers.

Disability networks singing from the same page

July 29, 2010
10:00 amto12:30 pm

The latest umbrella organisation for disability service providers to be launched is NZ Disability Support Network Inc (NZDSN). It has similar aims to ADPN, but works as a national organisation. The newly appointed CEO of NZDSN, Sandie Waddell, will be speaking at our next meeting on Thursday 29th July 2010 about the organisation and its function. We will also hold our AGM at the same meeting.

It is important that a strong bond is established between the two organisations, so we urge you to attend. The disability sector must work together if we are to achieve better conditions for the people we serve.

Come and meet Sandie and members of the ADPN Executive who work to represent our members, aiming for “an inclusive future”

Venue:
Western Springs Garden Community Hall
956-990 Great North Road
Opposite Western Springs Park

Time: 10.00 am to 12.30 pm
