Many Not-For-Profit organisations in New Zealand are required to be audited. This can be a major frustration in a number of respects. Some NFP organisations are also experiencing challenges such as it being harder to find auditors, and the audit process becoming more complicated and expensive. Added to this are some significant environmental changes such as new accounting and audit standards, new legislation impacting auditors and independent oversight of auditors being introduced in New Zealand. NFP organisations that understand these issues and implications will be more successful.

This forum presented by Craig Fisher from Hayes Knight is targeted at:

Governing body members: Trustees, Board members
Senior management
Internal accounting team
In fact, anyone involved in the audit process in a Not-For-Profit organisation.

Craig is an Audit Director and the Chairman of Hayes Knight New Zealand. He is an experienced, passionate and pragmatic presenter of local and national presentations on such topics as auditing, accounting updates, fraud prevention and governance matters. He has a special interest in the not-for-profit sector and regularly presents to clients and other groups. He was the keynote speaker for the Charities Commission at their 2009 AGM.

On September 6 Mayoral candidates spoke to an audience of 50 people on what they would do for the disability sector of Auckland if they should be elected as Mayor of the Super City. Few were able to grasp the problems that Auckland experiences, but it was an opportunity to educate them in the hope that should any one of them come to power, they will remember some of the information that was shared. There is no doubt, we have to continue working and reminding the governing bodies that funding for disability issues in general, and in Auckland in particular, remains a major problem.

On May 28th 2010, Forty people from a wide variety of disability service organisations worked together to discuss ways in which we can collaborate, work in partnership or share resources. The objectives were to achieve greater economy, reduce supply costs, establish greater resiliency within the sector and engender an enhanced sense of cooperation.

Brett Marsh facilitated a very active workshop in which he he told the story of why modern day trains are the width they are – based on Roman times! Yes, it is true! The moral being that if we keep on doing what we have always done, we will never make any progress! Now is the time to seek new ways of working.

One of the major achievements of the day was a list of “tradeable” items from which we can all benefit and use.

Read the Coopetition Workshop 2010 Report [ 376 KB PDF] and check out the list of resources we could all work on.

The Auckland Disability Providers Network is happy to assist in brokering trades between providers.
