Auckland Disability Providers Network Inc.

The Auckland Disability Providers Network (ADPN) aims to bring together service providers in the disability field to collectively work on initiatives and issues that affect them all.

The Minister of Disability Issues has chosen the Auckland Disability Providers Network to be her Auckland reference group, as it is important to have a united voice from a sector which is prepared to work co-operatively and supportively with her. The network has developed a working relationship with the Disability Support Services team in Wellington and meets regularly with the Ministry of Health, to discuss provider related issues.

The APDN endeavours to work with decision makers in local and central government to ensure the disability message is heard by them. A working relationship with Disability Support Services of the Ministry of Health is an important part of the work of the ADPN. Another arm of the ADPN works at peer support with regular forums, for providers and workshops on sector related issues such as understanding the NZDS.

The networking that is an integral part of all ADPN occasions is aimed at enlarging the community knowledge of providers and enabling them to gain support from fellow professionals. Gathering of resources that could be useful to members has been a focus in recent times. This can be in the form of contacts, notes from forums, or tangible resources such as Kia Rangatu -Moving Forward; a training package on understanding the New Zealand Disability Strategy and implementing it within your own organisation.

The network publishes 3 newsletters annually, has several open forums at venues around Auckland, and one major seminar each year on topics that are of interest to those in the disability sector. The network is governed by an executive steering committee, made up of agency representatives, that meets bi-monthly. The membership fee for organisations is based on their payroll and entitles you to copies of the newsletter.
