New study tackles mental illness stigma
(Wellington, New Zealand) A unique Mental Health Foundation study into the effects of stigma on New Zealanders living with mental illness will be launched today by the Governor-General, the Hon Anand Satyanand.
“Fighting Shadows: Self-Stigma And Mental Illness: Whawhai Atu te Whakamâ Hihira” incorporates the experiences of 76 men and women from around the country; including Pakeha, Maori, Pasifika, Chinese, young people and refugees.

An exciting
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
will be held at the Bruce Mason Conference Centre
26 August 2008
This one-day conference – ‘What is the business of community?: New ways of collaborating for successful outcomes’ – is being organised by Raeburn House in partnership with North Shore City Council and a reference group comprising North Shore Community & Social Services, PHAB, Age Concern and the Birkenhead/ Northcote Community Co-ordinator.
The conference will cover a variety of topics related to the community sector. Keynote speakers will include:
** Auckland business leader Dr. Lester Levy CEO of the NZ Leadership Institute of the University of Auckland, and
** Suzanne Snively, an economist and partner at Price Waterhouse Coopers. Suzanne works as a consultant in government health, house and the social welfare sectors as well as being a member of the Fullbright New Zealand Board.
Other speakers and workshop facilitators will be North Shore community leaders known for their innovation and best practice.
