The 2008 Conference theme “The New Zealand Health Management Sector – Alive and Well” reflects the changing nature of health management in this country and the demands on health managers to perform and be accountable. At a time of increasing pressure on health managers, the Conference will focus on topics such as the vision for the health sector into the immediate future, quality and safety, process improvement, healthy thinking and the war for talent amongst other key issues. The intent is to stimulate health management thought and provide some practical tools to properly equip health managers to cope with an ever-demanding environment.

Lots to talk about at the Ministry of Health Forum

The Auckland Forum on 26th March 2008, hosted by the Ministry of Health was attended by over 80 people. The day was opened by Geraldine Woods, Deputy Director General of Health. She spoke of her aim to be an “Intelligent Funder” by buying the right services at the right time.

Ms Woods is aware that people with disabilities want ‘ordinary everyday lives’ – they want control and influence over their own lives. Her priorities are: Workforce; Information (nothing about us without us); Families and young disabled (currently the focus is around services for the young disabled person and not around the family); Flexibility with money and the services that can be provided – trying to be more flexible with what is there. Congratulations to DPA on winning US$50,000 grant!

NZ disability group awarded US$50,000 grant

The Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA) has been awarded a US $50,000 grant as part of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt International Disability Award, announced Disability Issues Minister Ruth Dyson today.

The prestigious Roosevelt Award has been won by the New Zealand Government in recognition of the progress made in advancing the participation of disabled people across New Zealand society. The US $50,000 grant, which is part of the Award, is given to an outstanding non-government disability organisation selected by the winning country.

Charities Commission Reminder – Apply Now!

The queue of applications is growing. So, it’s important to apply now to have your application processed before the tax laws change on 1 July.

If you know of any charitable organisations who haven’t yet applied, and who are likely to be eligible, please encourage them to apply as soon as possible, so they don’t risk missing out on charitable-purpose tax exemptions after 1 July 2008.

BURNOUT : A Creative Workshop for Health Professionals

This workshop will run over 7 sessions and use the creative process of Body Casting to explore the issues around burnout for health professionals e.g. doctors, nurses, therapists and counsellors etc. Participants will be using their creativity to explore a new path that supports who they really are and what gives their life joy and meaning.

Both Estelle Memdelsohn and Judith Rosamund have worked with USA artist Christiane Corbat, who taught them the process of body casting as healing art. They have facilitated a number of workshops as well as working individually with people to create healing sculptures.
Estelle works as a Psychologist and Psychodramatist, and Judith as a Professional Artist and Psychosynthesis Counsellor.
