ADPN Chairpersons’ Annual Report 2007

Presented to the AGM August 10th 2007

It was decided by the incoming Executive of the Auckland Disability Providers Network Inc. (ADPN Inc) following last year’s Annual General Meeting to have two people share the Chair of the organization, namely Stuart Spackman and Colin Reive. The decision was made to ensure the Network had continuous leadership throughout the year.

Network Coordinator Judith Lunny has provided details of the work of the organization throughout the year. We are appreciative of all Executive Committee members for contributing significant amounts of their time to guide this work – thank you all.
The regular Forums continued to develop into increasingly well attended events covering a range of sector specific issues. Feedback gained from the Forums was used by the Executive Committee to mandate much of their work – for example the submission to the Select Committee Judith has mentioned in her report. It also mandated much of the lobbying work undertaken by the ADPN Inc.

The overarching strategic focus resulting in the pragmatic outcomes was one of change.

The Executive Committee became aware, via structured planning sessions, of a need for the ADPN Inc to increase it’s profile and review it’s core business aims – in other words to ensure the organization represented it’s membership as effectively as possible.

The major result to emerge from the planning work was the establishment of a new Executive Officer position, involving increased paid hours of work, located in a community based office. Strategically, it is the expectation of all involved that this managed development will result in greater connection with Auckland based disability service providers.

As a result of Judith tendering her resignation a new appointment has been made to a new position, thus completing one developmental phase of the organization, and commencing another.

Judith has worked for the ADPN Inc for the past 10 years. She has effectively been the “face” of the organization, working well beyond the call of duty in the interests of us all. Her involvement commenced when the ADPN Inc. was basically an idea, progressing it through the formative years, to a point where the organization has become very well established.

Throughout her time working for the ADPN Inc Judith has dedicated herself to the cause. Thank you Judith for all you have done on our behalf. Sincere thanks also to Judith’s husband Brian who effectively became our Accountant – initially, we suspect, without fully realizing what he was getting himself into.

We believe the year ahead has the potential to be another excellent year of achievement.

Stuart Spackman & Colin Reive – Joint Chairpersons.
